Our Next Adventure
By now, you have surely heard that Sunnybrook Christian Church has purchased the former Richmond Early Childhood Center (RECC) just across Richmond Road from the church property. This opportunity developed very quickly over last few months and it was exciting to see God’s hand working through the process.
Sunnybrook Christian Church had already planned to begin a formal process of developing a building evaluation and expansion/renovation plan during 2015. It has become apparent in the last few years that the current facility is not optimally designed for our current activity level and programming structure. The purchase of the RECC will now become a part of that plan.
After preliminary discussions with the church elders and staff as well as the architectural firm contracted to create the plan, it is apparent that the most logical use of the RECC at this time is as a new location for Sunnybrook Christian School. Ideally, the renovation and relocation would be complete in time for the 2015-2016 school year, but we are still early in the process of defining the necessary renovations as well as raising funds to cover that cost. Watch for a meeting to held in the near future to share with you our exciting plans for the building as well as our fundraising efforts.
Some families have asked if there will be a noticeable increase in tuition to cover the cost of operating in the new facility. Our hope is that one of the benefits of this move will be an increase in enrollment that would cover the new expenses. Until that happens, Sunnybrook Christian Church is committed to working with the school to make sure that the finances do not become prohibitive to the function of the school. There will still occasionally be increases due to rising costs of operation and increasing salaries, but the School Board will strive, as always, to maintain tuition at manageable levels for our families. You will notice a slight increase this year that translates to only around $1 per day! Keep in mind, however, that we have not increased tuition for our elementary grades in over four years while we have still increased our teachers’ salaries.
We are so excited for the future of SCS with this new opportunity! We ask that you be in prayer for the renovation and move as well as for the funding to be provided to move into the facility with the renovations fully funded. God has done amazing things in the life of our school and we have no doubt that He will continue to do so!
If at any time you have questions, feel free to contact our office, Mrs. Hauf, or any member of the School Board.
